Women in the United States are 21 times more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in other high-income countries.
Of all women murdered by a gun in the US, half are killed by their intimate partners.
If an intimate partner has a gun, the woman is five times more likely to be murdered with a gun by that partner than if she had a partner who did not own a gun.
Hawaii has the lowest gun death rate and some of the strongest gun laws in the country. Comparatively, only two people are killed with funs for every 100,000 Hawaii residents--less than one-tenth Alaska's gun death rate. Alaska has very few restrictions to gun ownership.
Access to a gun triples the risk of suicide death. As such, gun suicides tend to concentrate in states with higher rates of firearm ownership.
Of the 36,383 people killed with guns in 2017, 22,274 were gun suicides (61%).
